People who train do it for a variety of reasons; performance, aesthetics & health cover most of them.

But Health is the cornerstone not just to the other goals, but to everything in your whole life!

Without good health, you lose everything else.

You lose performance, you lose aesthetics, you lose energy, you lose experiences, you lose connections, you lose work, so you lose money.

Health is THE most valuable thing in this world that we can control.

Its not that people don’t care about health - but most people dont realise whats actually at stake!

And i’m going to explain how and why that is.

Then ill show you how to improve it - so stay tuned for future emails too.

  1. We can lose ~10% of our strength and fitness per decade from 30 onwards (you still wanna hear this if youre under 30!)

Thats your muscle mass and your aerobic capacity.

  1. Our balance, coordination and resilience to illness and injury reduce year on year.

Thats your lifestyle, experiences, enjoyment of life etc under threat.

It doesn’t sound too dramatic until you reverse engineer it from your future self.

It means this:

Version 1 of yourself, 20-30 years in the future can

  • Walk through town or go on a walk or hike with a backpack

  • Get up off the floor

  • Feels pretty comfortable in your body

  • Can travel without feeling exhausted

  • Physically and mentally confident

  • Enjoys time with family and friends

  • Doesn’t get ill much & is less susceptible to Alzheimers, Diabetes, Heart attacks & Cancer.

Version 2 of yourself

  • Has to avoid stairs

  • Cant bend over easily

  • Has to stop every few minutes for a rest

  • Needs help from family to do anything like cook or clean

  • Cant get out and about

  • Cant travel

  • Probably takes a lot of medication

This isnt meant to scare you, its just reality.

You can reverse engineer your future like this:

If i want to be able to move this much, have this much strength and be able to do x, y & z -> it requires this much strength and aerobic endurance.

This is measurable:

If I want to be able to lift a backpack that weighs 20kg and walk 30 minutes with it at the age of 70…

Then we roll back on the average decline we face each decade and can say that we need to be able to be able to be able to carry a 30kg backpack for 45 minutes at the age of 30 - which is more challenging than people probably give credit too.

(If you dont believe me, pick up 30kg and just hold it for a few minutes…

So this isnt just about living longer, its about living better!

And theres no glass ceiling. The fitter and stronger you make yourself now, not only improves your current quality of life, but also improves your entire future and how much joy and happiness you can create.

The added benefit to all of this is that you also live a better life now! More energy, more confidence and self belief, more community, more self respect, an improved body composition too!

When you wrap your head around this, suddenly the time, cost and motivation to train are not even a limiting factor anymore. Its the number 1 important thing.

Even if the most important thing in your world is someone else, to have a good life with them (child or spouse) you need your health and fitness.

Many say they would die for their loved ones, but would you truly get fit and healthy for them!?

Over the next few emails, im going to break down what actually builds and preserves your strength and fitness, in plain language.

Not to scaremonger, but to help people understand whats worth investing in yourself for.

What I will say right now though, is that this is one of the big reasons I truly believe in coaching, and am in this game! Its fundamental to life.

And thats why Tough Cookie does what it does.
