Body image is a funny thing…

A lot of people start training because they want to change how they look.

(though that actually does not include the majority of people who join TC)

We all care about how we look and feel.

But somewhere along the way, a lot of people started chasing someone else’s version of ‘better’.

Perfect photos…

Smaller sizes…

Impossible comparison…

Its easy to forget that your body isnt just for looking at… its for living in & enjoying life with.

At Tough Cookie, we dont train people to just shrink.

We also help to build…

Strength, confidence, discipline & a sense of pride in what their body can do.

When you start training for performance instead of punishment, everything feels better and your relationship with exercise and health improves.

You eat better because you want to fuel yourself and feel good, not to starve yourself.

You try things because you trust what your body can do.

And you start to feel more like the real you.

Its not always easy to shift the mindset from something that is unfortunately so indoctrinated in much of society… but there are pockets of people and coaches who provide much better messaging out there.

Your value is not based on how you look.

Its on who you are.

For example, an unflattering photo of you is just that… its not a reflection of your hard work, your fitness levels, your health, how others see you, your kindness, your intelligence, the love you give to others, etc etc… Its just a photo from a bad angle… We all have them!!

That being said, we improve our self image through physical development that makes us stronger and fitter, and to an extent, as a by-product, can improve our own physique too. But the change in self approval comes more from building belief and confidence in ourself, rather than our appearance or approval from others does.

Thats why many people who people seem to think ‘look' good’ can often feel miserable about themselves, even have deep self image issues.

Equally, we’ve got top athletes; fitter and stronger and more confident than most… who don’t fit the typical ‘athletic’ body image. And we’ve got so called ‘supermodels’ who cant run 5m or lift a 10kg dumbbell and carry all sorts of health risks around with them…(and who probably feel miserable too!)

Personally, im always purposeful in asking how someone feels when it looks like theyve changed their body…

I dont just say ‘you look good’ because for all i know, they could be in the poorest health theyve ever been and i don’t want to reinforce that.

So instead, its always something like “Hey you look like youve lost weight, how are you feeling!?”

Anyway, the point is…

Sometimes the way we see ourselves is REAAAALLLY skewed, and based on things that aren’t really true or valuable…

When we improve our understanding of what really matters, a lot changes for the better, and with the right coaching help, guides you to physical and mental improvement, but done for the right reasons…

Out of self discovery and wanting to enjoy life more.

Not out of self loathing or a poor body image.

Train for the right reasons, the right way.

We’ll help you improve your body image, mindset and self worth.
