Why do i keep starting and stopping with fitness!?

Heres my straight up opinion!
Its probably not you, its your fitness environment.
How is fitness set up in your life to be successful?…
Having a membership to a gym with access to classes is just access - but isnt designed in any way to keep you motivated and consistent.
That leaves you relying on
spikes and dips in motivation,
no fixed rhythm,
overdoing it when you have time,
training without progression and
just hoping for the best.
So, when it becomes a tad inconvenient because life becomes a bit busy, its the first thing to go because its not firmly planted in your life.
Or when motivation dips because youre not sure if its working, or if youre doing the right thing, its easy to give up.
Or you actually do feel motivated and life isnt too busy, so you go in hard and end up burning yourself out because you havent got your training load management right.
You get the drift.
So what would I do if I was your coach, and you were a member at Tough Cookie Gym?
Firstly, Id discuss with you whats going to most suitable fit your life - thats not the ‘in an ideal world’ its ‘in this world!’.
Then it suits how busy you already are and makes the time you do spend training as useful and effective as possible.
Wed also plan what type of training would be most beneficial and encourage more training time to be spent on what you need the most.
And heres the one that hardly anyone does!
If you were still finding it tough, Id ask you to decide and plan your ‘worst case scenario’. So when life does get super busy, or your motivation drops; what is the minimum effective dose youd allow for yourself!?
So, we might decide that training with us 3 x week + 1 weekly run is what we want you to do.
But if life gets crazy, were going to get at least 2 sessions at the gym.
And if things get even crazier, firstly - thats a problem that needs addressing - but secondly, we plan to focus on good nutrition choices and some simple activity to keep you moving.
But theres more that sets up your fitness environment for success:
Booking sessions -> keeps you accountable (though we also encourage ownership > accountability to it becomes a habit)
Having a personal coach -> we notice if youre not there and we get in touch to make sure youre doing ok!
Training blocks & tracked metrics -> Gives you visible progress which is very motivating!
Tailored training -> makes sure what youre doing is right for you and gives you just the right amount of challenge
An amazing gym community -> You become part of something that makes you want to be there!
2-4 coaching session memberships -> Ensures you have a realistic commitment!
And finally, how we know this really works!
At tough Cookie Gym we have some really impressive stats:
Around a 90% attendance rate - better than 90% of the fitness industry - meaning our members are super consistent, invested and want to be there!
A retention rate of over 98% - meaning that when people join, they really stick around because our style & systems are all of the things that set them up for success!
Thats not saying our members are any different - theyre not non-stop motivsted or have easy lives - far from it!
They’re busy professionals and parents with a lot going on.
The difference is the system around them makes it easier to keep going when motivation inevitably dips and life gets in the way.
So if you go through these waves of feeling motivated, then falling off and starting again, maybe its not a motivation or discipline problem.
You’re just not set up for fitness success yet & you need a better system around you!
